Plies Defines ‘Real’ in SOHH.com Article

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

In Plies latest interview with SOHH.com, the rapper speaks on why he chooses straightforward story telling over complex lyrics. The emcee is unapologetic about his lack of lyricism because he thinks that the truth can get lost in metaphors and double entendres and he’d rather keep it real. For Plies, being the realest rapper means being honest about his position in the industry and acknowledging his shortcomings.

On his new album, Plies truthfully reveals the reality of his home life. In a song called “Family Straight” the rapper asks God for the opportunity to get his family in order before he passes away. Plies talks about his grandmother’s kidney failure, his brother’s prison sentence and his aunt’s battle with AIDS, among other things. “Under My Wing”

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

It’s ya big homie Plies, I am starting a new program, entitled “Under My Wing” where I will be selecting one male between the ages of 8 -18 to be my little brother. In our community so many young men are at risk of dropping out of school, getting involved in the streets and losing their way. I want to personally reach out and become a Big Brother to a young man in need. I will be someone they can talk to, turn to for advice, who will listen and be there to help them navigate through life. I am hoping that having me as a mentor and Big Brother will help encourage them to make positive choices in their life.

If you feel like you can benefit from being my little brother or you are a parent, with a child at risk, that you feel can benefit from becoming my little brother, send me a letter, explaining why, to the address noted below. I will be personally reviewing all entries and selecting my lil homie.

Please send all letters to:

Currently “Sagging Pants” is a topic that has sparked a lot of controversy and much national debate. A number of states, including Florida, Michigan, Louisiana, Missouri, Virginia and Georgia, to name a few, are considering passing laws banning this practice, by setting up fines and potentially jail time for offenders. Plies addresses this issue head on, on his latest street anthem “Pants Hang Low.” In addition Plies has recently launched www.pantshanglow.com, a blog site devoted to the issue, featuring news, action alerts, and commentary. We would love to hear from you and get your feedback and thoughts on the situation. You can also post your own articles and videos, on the subject matter. Yahoo News: Baggy Pants Ban “Unconstitutional,” Rules US Judge

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

A Florida judge has deemed unconstitutional a law banning baggy pants that show off the wearer’s underwear, local media reported Tuesday.

A 17-year-old spent a night in jail last week after police arrested him for wearing low pants in Riviera Beach, southeast Florida.

The law banning so-called “saggy pants” was approved by city voters in March after supporters of the bill collected nearly 5,000 signatures to put the measure on the ballot.

The teen would have received a 150 dollars fine or community service, but he spent the night in jail due to a history of marijuana use, the Palm Beach Post newspaper said. Click here to continue reading the article.
