The Somebody Loves You Scholarship Fund is designed specifically for students, attending an accredited College or University, who has a parent (s) that is presently incarcerated and who is financially disadvantaged. Students who are currently enrolled, or who will be entering school in the fall, may apply. One male and one female student, who meet the outlined criteria, will each be selected to receive an award of $5000.
The objective is to break the cycle of incarceration and provide youth who have been and continue to be affected by the negative impacts of the prison system, with a sense of hope, and to let them know that they are not forgotten. No matter what adversities one may face in life, one thing remains true and that is that, somebody loves you.
Scholarship recipients will receive financial assistance with college tuition and book fees only. This financial assistance will be paid directly to the educational institution where the recipient attends school or will be entering in the fall.

Qualification Criteria
- Candidate must provide verification of enrollment in an accredited college or university, or proof of acceptance for the 2008-2009 academic year. Acceptable documents include transcript for current students and acceptance letter for entering students.
- Candidate must provide proof that they have a parent (s) who is currently incarcerated. Need to provide parent(s) full name, facility address and inmate identification number. (*Please be advised that this portion has been updated to reflect the correct information requirement, for all prisoners and not just those from the state of Florida. )
- Income level of Candidate’s family must demonstrate need for financial assistance. Annual income must be below $30,000 to qualify. All applicants must show proof of income, such as most recent income tax return, last four (4) payroll stubs, or a letter from the appropriate social service agency (local Housing Authority, Welfare Department, Head Start, etc.).
- Candidate will submit a scholarship application along with a letter detailing why candidate should be chosen for this scholarship as well as explaining what candidate expects to gain from this experience (150 to 300 words).

- Applications and letters must be post marked no later than Monday, July 28th. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
- All parts must be received in one envelope, in the following order:
- Complete and Signed Application
- Proof of parental incarceration
- Proof of income

- Employees of Big Gates, Slip N Slide and Atlantic Records and their family members are ineligible to qualify for the scholarship.
